Not so much the what but the how. Food was variable, recommend the steak and ale pie, with solid local beer selection. The chicken pot pie was cold and fish and chips (generously) were edible. Atmosphere is very pub like and comfortable. We visited in the off season (fall) so was very understaffed so over an hour (with no mention of another beverage or even water), while the local folk were served immediately. The promise was not met with reality sadly. We wish them luck with more staff and a more welcoming approach to weary travellers in need of comforting fare. Sadly ended up buying a second lunch at the Metro grocery store.
For starters we arrived during the end of a rush and it took a while to be seated. The host told us we could select any table which was nice. We chose the booth which was comfy. The Strawberry Daiquiri was strong or perhaps not mixed well. The food tasted good but felt a bit pricey. In their defense it seems all restaurants in this area have the same rate though! (I came from out of town) The waitresses were very kind but unfortunately I would say a tad unprofessional. I did not have a bad experience but I would say I was unimpressed.
We ordered the weekend deal 2 fish and chips meals (cod) with coleslaw and it was really tasty. Server was really friendly and knew her beer selection quite well. Place had cute decor and prices were reasonable. Overall a very positive experience!
Wish it were possible to give 100 stars to Churchill's Old English Pub! From the moment we walked into the authentically-decorated restaurant from the cute outside patio, we felt like we were actually in olde England. And the food! We had the most delicious streamed mussels appetizer followed by a steak and ale entree for my husband and a lovely pineapple stir-fry curry for me. No TVs, no muzak soundtracks, low lighting, booths and the true feeling of an authentic Brtish pub ... just the best!
Another fish n chips for the books, this time a single piece with a $3 add on of coleslaw. The tartar sauce was really rich heavy on the mayo, made for solid dip for the fries. I was a bit surprised to see the coleslaw upcharge but it was dressed well and a sizable portion. Huge thanks to our servers for handling the issues with payment processing, which had us paying cash. I also have to recommend the cocktail of the day, absolutely lethal!!
