The Candied Yam

Hi Stephanie, I wanted to reach out regarding my visit to The Candied Yam on Saturday the 17th. Everything tasted great; however, I unfortunately became ill shortly after arriving home. The only item I ate that the rest of my party did not was the tartar sauce at the end of the buffet. I noticed it wasn't kept on ice and wanted to bring this to your attention. I’ll definitely be skipping the tartar sauce in the future unless it’s properly chilled! I'm not looking to place blame; I just thought this feedback might help prevent others from having the same seven-day bad experience.

This place is incredible! The food can only be described as a warm hug. Full of flavor! Friendly staff. Highly recommended!

The food is great. Presentation is amazing. Taste is on point but the portions of the sides in the take out trays only filled the containers a third of the way full. I was absolutely shocked opening our food trays and looking at the amount of the sides in the trays. They can do better. I don’t know if this was because it Sunday and they were trying to stretch sides due to their buffet but we never got skimpy sides like this before. Would have gave an 4 out of 5 eating if sides at least filled the sides part of the takeout tray.

I dined at the restaurant on 3/7/2026 with family. There were 5 ppl in my group. The food was subpar, the service was horrific! We opted for the buffet which was $25.99 pp. My son chose to order pork chops. The buffet was a generic & bland. I don’t know how any soul food restaurant could mess up fried chicken. Everything was overly salty. The cabbage was greasy & the Mac n cheese was hard from sitting out. Sadly we ordered a salad with the buffet that we did not receive until dinner was over. We also ordered teas & sodas which did not arrive until towards the end of our meal. We had to “BEG” to get our check (literally) it took 25 mins for the check to arrive. We were also charged $32 for a tip (the bill stated we were being charged for gratuity for over 6 ppl…GO Figure (remember I stated

OMG!!! That dinner was one of the best soul food meals I have ever had!! Fried chicken was crispy and delicious, candied yams seasoned to perfection and sweet, and the Mac and cheese was great! The bread pudding was off the charts. Some of the best bread pudding I’ve ever had. Atmosphere was good and clean. They even played smooth jazz that reminded me of the early 2000s. Kam was our waiter, he was courteous, funny, and was a delight. After our meal I did a little happy shimmy. 10/10!
