The Brown Bag Bistro

We stopped at The Brown Bistro on 2/25 (a favorite whenever we visit the area!) It’s always a treat, although we prefer it when it’s warm enough to sit outside & it wasn’t this time. It’s always busy, which is a sign of a great restaurant! I had a cup of tomato basil soup (which was very good!) & B ordered the Chili Mac (which was a huge portion!). I appreciated the option of bread or crackers with my soup. Everything is made to order so you do need to expect to wait a bit. Usually we enjoy a glass of wine on the patio while we wait but this time we were on our way to the airport. Lucky we had plenty of time & it was worth it! Highly recommend!

I got the Veggie Naan sandwich with red pepper hummus delivered. It was so delicious! I am a very picky vegetarian. This sandwich is FIRE! So good! Was so happy to see a real vegetarian option and not the typical junk other restaurants offer as vegetarian meals. Highly recommend! I will definitely be ordering this meal again! *Photo shows only half of the sandwich.

One of the best food spots in Alton. Inject that beer cheese into my veins please.

This is a charming bistro in downtown Alton, IL with a cozy interior and large outdoor patio as well. The sandwiches here are among the best I’ve ever had. Granny’s grilled cheese is my favorite! 3 kinds of cheese, thin sliced apples and an amazing brown sugar aoli - perfection! But you can’t go wrong with any of their sandwiches. If you haven’t been, it needs to be your next lunch out.

Ordered carry out for a group to celebrate work birthday with pick up at 1130 on a Wednesday. This place is always hopping ! All the food was just as we ordered only thing I regret is not grabbing a slice of delicious cheesecake!
