My friends and I went to Red Eagle distillery and we were looking for somewhere to go eat. Behold...the mysterious sign at the start of the winding path next door that said "Food this way!" I'm so glad we followed that sign! If you're looking for some cozy & intimate vibes, this place is for you. It was a former bootleg distillery and brothel. Snag a table upstairs at the bar for the ultimate experience. The small plates were fantastic and the craft cocktails were on point. A perfect place for a date night. This place is a bit hard to find, but, that's the allure. It was the favorite stop during our winery tour. Can't wait to return!
We came up for the weekend and had this place recommended by multiple locals. They did warn us we would probably need a reservation, but we decided to chance it. We had the cheese tray, and bread with honey butter to start. Both were fantastic. The bread was piping hot and had a great spicy kick. The smosh burgers were delicious, but the pumpkin gnocchi was truly one of the best fall dishes I’ve had in a long time. The whole house was gorgeous. People were coming in just to walk around and look. My one and only suggestion would be lights along the walkway. We passed a group of older women who were having trouble seeing so we pulled out our phone flashlights to show them the sidewalk and where they were going.
What a great find on a country road in Thompson Ohio! We discovered the Black Door Tavern while we were visiting the Red Eagle Distillery, right next to door! Which, by the way was a great distillery, in a beautifully restored barn. The bar in the tavern is upstairs and definitely where you want to be! First off, it’s beautiful. Secondly, there’s a fascinating story behind the building itself. The drinks were amazing and the food was even better. The small plates were exceptional. The bang- bang shrimp was outstanding, I’m craving it as I write about it. Definitely worth the drive along with many beautiful wineries to check out along the way.
Black Door Tavern has become our favorite place when we’re looking for upscale small plates and old fashion inspired drinks. The beautifully restored farmhouse creates an intimate setting while the friendly staff and knowledgeable bartenders provide a wonderful service. The chef is a true artist who is always creating new menu items.
Very nice. Fine dinner at it's best. The staff was outstanding and the wine and food was the best. Keep up the amazing work.
