The food itself was definitely enjoyable and worth recommending. We went with the classic fish and chips and added a curry dip for the chips, which paired really well. The fish was nicely done, and the curry dip in particular stood out. The only downside was the service. We did not tip prior to being served, unfortunately the experience afterward felt a bit underwhelming. Tip should come AFTER the service, not before. Overall, the quality of the food would bring us back, and we’d be open to visiting again at a different time in hopes of a better service experience.
This is such a cute place! It was big enough to sit 6 people but still cozy. The fish and chips were SO good, but what I really loved the most was the meat pastie. I will dream about it. We also got poutine, a ham toastie, and a burger. The toastie was the best grilled sandwich we had ever had! And the poutine made our taste buds dance and sing.
Stopped by since I was in NE running errands. I am NOT a fan of Fish and Chips but I saw they had Sheppards pie on the menu. I added Irish cheddar and man, this thing was de-lush-iius! The cheese was bubbling and a perfect compliment to the meaty innards and mashed potatoes. Just what I wanted o n a brisk December winter afternoon here in Minnesota.
HUGE fish portions perfectly fried. The best chips and house-made tartar sauce, excellent poutine, shepherd's pie and bangers. Ordering and seating is a bit unconventional but it makes sense because they are a small operation but wildly popular. When you walk in, you check in at the station to your left. You can also grab a pint of beer or a glass of wine to wait for a table. The workers watch for tables to open up. Once a table starts to vacate, you order and pay at the station while they clean up your table. Once seated, your food is out rather quickly. Believe me, it's worth the wait.
The Anchor sets a very high bar! I have yet to find Fish and Chips that tops The Anchor. Very generous portions with the fish being the obvious attraction. We marveled at the light, crispy, batter, perfectly golden brown! How do they do that? It doesn't just fall off at the first bite. The wild Alaskan Cod was flakey and perfectly done, almost sweet. Even the hand cut chips were done to perfection. Do try the house tarter sauce, it is the perfect compliment to the fish, just as the malt vinegar compliments the chips. Exemplary job, keep it up!
