Alaska Fish House wears its intentions plainly, and that’s part of the charm. This is a place built around locally caught Alaska seafood. There is a burger and a simple spring mix salad on standby, but if seafood isn’t your goal, you’re probably better off elsewhere. If it is, you’re in very good hands. The fish was impeccably fresh and cooked just right. The batter, light with a noticeable panko crunch, struck that rare balance of crisp without overwhelming the fish. Fries came seasoned in their house blend that leans Cajun or Seafood Magic, and the slaw tilted toward a Carolina-style bite rather than creamy heaviness. The fish tacos were solid, though the rice was well past tender into mushy territory. The chowder, however, was a standout: rich, herbaceous, comforting, and exactly what
We stopped in for lunch recently and had a good experience. We tried the fish and chips with salmon, clam chowder, and crab. The mesquite fries had great flavor. The breading on the fish was tasty. The clam chowder was excellent. The Dungeness crab (full order) was great. The crab was smaller and more expensive than a previous stop on our trip, but still good. They only have 2 unisex bathrooms in the place and they were occupied awhile when we were there.
Great place for a quick meal near the port. Prices reflect the cruise port’s proximity, but portions are big enough for sharing for most people. The fried fish sampler was a fun way to try it all - I had never thought of frying salmon, but it was surprisingly good! The decor is interesting - the dog portraits and menus are fun to look at while you eat.
I think this was the best fish and chips we had on our Alaska trip. We tried the Halibut ($32 for 2) and Salmon (I wanna say it was $28 for 2). The service was quick and easy. The fish was fried perfectly and the fries were immaculate. The slaw was tangy which I was not used to but overall worked out with everything else on the plate. Definitely recommend!
Highly recommended fish place by our tour guide. Line move fast to order food. If you find a seat after you order food. They give you a number you bring the food to you. Indoor, seating with full service bar and outdoor seating overlooking the marina. Salmon, fish and chips was very fresh and breaded and cooked perfectly. The french fries had a chipotle seasoning on it and were fried to perfection. The coleslaws of vinegar based almost like a sweet-and-sour or vinegar sugar mixture. Was very fresh.
