Teranga African Restaurant

I have been waiting for months to try this place and finally got the opportunity to last night, and wow was it worth the wait. Every single thing we tried was delicious, served hot, freshly made, and so reasonably priced. We started with the Accara, black eyed pea fritters that were so soft and pillowy inside I'm still thinking about them this morning. We got the Yassa combo with chicken and lamb, jollof rice and black eyed peas on the side. The lamb and chicken were perfectly cooked, we could not stop eating it. We also got a whole snapper with plantains and cous cous. You absolutely must try and fish dish while you're there. This place ABSOLUTELY deserves more attention!! The food is incredible. Went with a group of friends and the owner took care of us. We told him we like everything and he brought us out a spread! Everything was well seasoned, fresh, and cooked well. It’s incredibly approachable for anyone that isn’t experienced with Senegalese cuisine. Highly recommend giving this place a shot. You will be happy you did!

Looking to try something new, I went with 4 of my buddies to Teranga in Edgewater. We got there at 7 and were a little dubious that we were the only ones in the restaurant…I’m glad we didn’t let it dissuade us. The owner greeted us warmly and gave us some time with the menu. It was the blind leading the blind, all the item were foreign to us! We decided to do something I’ve always dreamed about doing. We told the owner it was our first Senegalese food experience and asked if he would be comfortable feeding us. Without batting an eye he said, “I got you.” We got both appetizers, with the Accara blowing us all away. Then he brought 4 main courses, incorporating different proteins, and all their sides. Tried Teranga for the first time today. Had a delicious appetizer, fataya (fish pie) with a main of fish yassa with jollof rice and plantains. My favorite thing about this meal was the amazing spices in each dish. It was full of flavor with a little heat. And the staff was very nice. Absolutely recommend.

From the moment I walked in, I was overtaken by a welcoming presence; both atmosphere and staff. I ordered Akkara, Soupe Kandia, Jollof Rice, & Attieke; everything was amazing. The Akkara and Soupe Kandia were my absolute favorites; flavor was impeccable. I wish I could eat the Soupe Kandia everyday (that’s how good it was), but the oil was a bit much (only downside), so if you are conscience of this, it’s the only thing I’d note. Regardless, the food was amazing! Anytime I want to indulge in amazing food, I know where to go! - Friend got the Red Snapper and it was also amazing.
