Taqueria Mi Tierra

Ordered a small cheese dip with ground beef, to-go. (With chips also). It was definitely cooked to-order (fresh), but the grease from the beef made it too watery to even enjoy. NOT WORTH THE MONEY. I was charged $16 which is just outrageous to me. I’ve never paid more than $8-10 for this same exact thing from other Mexican restaurants. (The picture below shows the size cheese/beef dip that I received in comparison to a post-it note. Small.) the Mexican restaurant less than a mile away charges $10 for this same item, except they give you double the amount AND It tastes better.

I really wanted to like this place because it’s local and family owned/operated. They are super friendly people and the food is good but the restaurant itself is really run down and somewhat dirty. In fact, after we had eaten our $22. fajitas (the online menu was NOT updated) I happened to look down and a roach crawled past my feet under the table leg. There’s also several ceiling tiles that were sagging with past water leaks and were discolored from mold. I guess we should have looked up before sitting down to eat. I sincerely wish this small business the best because the food is really good… I just personally can’t get past a potentially unhealthy dining environment. There’s also an up charge if you pay with a credit card.

Super cozy inside and great food! Our waitress was so friendly. Ordered the flautas and she came out also brought me some hot peppers from her garden.

This place is fantastic! Came recommended from a friend. We ordered the jumbo fresh margaritas and cheese dip when we arrived. The restaurant was clean and Maria wad the one to help us. She was very friendly and answered our questions because this was our first time there. Maria returned with our margaritas and cheese dip and took our order. She made a suggestion for me for the Tortas. It sounded delicious, so i ordered one. She left the table and my wife and i tried our margaritas.. they were delicious!! Our food came and the Torta was amazing! We don't live close, but will definitely return next time we are in the area. Maria took great care of us, she makes excellent margaritas, the food was great and very fresh and the restaurant was clean. Highly recommend!

Best Mexican food in the Athens area! I'll gladly drive past many other places to eat with the great folks that operate this restaurant. Delicious, fresh food every time! Have Maria make you a drink and then sit back and enjoy. She is fantastic and will take care of you! It's not a very big place, but I believe that makes it even better. Certainly, don't be distracted by the size or location. You'll love this place!
