Syosset Public Library

Great library overall, but some staffs interaction was disappointing. My 4 year old boy asked for a second craft after seeing another child with two. He was ignored at first. When he asked again, the staff member told him to use “magic words” and say “please.” He did. Then she immediately said he could only have one craft. What is the point? Rules are fine—if it’s one per child, just say that kindly. But using manners as a “teaching moment” and then still shutting him down in a dismissive way felt rude and unnecessary. Young kids deserve a little warmth and patience.

Thank you so much to Mr. Guiteau for going above and beyond for me!! I was having issues printing time sensitive documents as the library was closing and he helped me resolve it and made sure that I left with everything I needed. I visit Syosset Library regularly and am always pleased by my visits; it is a big (3 floors) and clean library, lots of selections and can place items on hold if they are currently checked out. I placed a hold on a book recently and got it within the week. Lots of computer stations and staff is always friendly and helpful.

Even though I live in Plainview, I prefer bringing my 7-year-old to this library. It’s cleaner, there’s no ongoing construction, and it has more spaces and activities that appeal to his age. The larger selection of books and resources is a huge plus. A great place for kids and families!

Syosset has an excellent library with very accommodating, knowledgeable staff. The design of the newly renovated library is perfect for quiet spots and tutoring, and the library fireplace on the second floor is such a great touch... A private toddler play area is on the first floor as well.
