Sumo Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar

I recently dined at Sumo Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar in Hoover, Alabama, and it was an enjoyable experience overall.  Hibachi Experience & Atmosphere As with many hibachi-style restaurants, the presentation was both entertaining and impressive. The chefs showcased their skills with flair, making the meal a delightful spectacle. The atmosphere was lively and inviting, perfect for both families and groups celebrating special occasions. Service & Portions The servers were attentive and ensured our needs were met throughout the meal. The portions were generous—so much so that we had plenty to take home for later. The food was delicious, with the hibachi dishes cooked to perfection and the sushi fresh and flavorful. Additional Charges One aspect to be aware of is the nearly $10 service

We went here to celebrate my daughter's 13th birthday, this was the 2nd time we went and we enjoyed ourselves, the food and customer service is great, the shrimp and steak is my go to favorite but my daughter orders the lobster every time we go

The level of customer service is very poor. The manager never visited the table when it had been requested because the chef literally just cooked and offered NO entertainment. The food was not seasoned. The restaurant needs a face lift. The decor is the original and very dated. The bathroom has a funny sewage smell. Very disappointing. But the same quality as in the past.

I was not impressed with this restaurant the service was not the best. I ordered Shrimp Yakisoba, waitress asked “protein I wanted”, I was like shrimp. I thought that was strange since Shrimp is clearly the protein. I even pointed to the item on the menu when ordering. 10 minutes later, the waitress shows up with shrimp fried rice. I’m like that was not what I ordered. How did shrimp Yaki-soba(noodles) sound like shrimp fried rice? I had to wait another 10mins for my order to come out correctly. The food was ok but nothing to write home about. The presentation of the food was great though.

This restaurant used to be one of our "go-to" places that was always good. For some reason, it seems to be sliding in a negative direction. The service was good, but the chef and the food was subpar. The rice and the noodles were tasteless, and the steak and vegetables overcooked. The chef appeared to be rattled and his cooking showed it. Definitely not worth the $150 we paid for the meal for 4. Will not be seeking to go back for a while.
