Steak ’n Shake

We LOVE steak and shake. They have switched to tallow to make their fries which is so much better for you and still tastes amazing. Food is always fabulous and the shakes are wonderful. Its a cool, almost self-service setup where you order on large, user-friendly screens. Makes you feel like you can take your time and look through everything. Then, they call you name when its ready. They also isually have a friendly greeter. Prices are so reasonable, too! Our whole family including kids, love Steak and Shake. 😀

On Saturday January, 17th., 2026. I went, with my daughter, to this restaurant to get someone lunch. I haven't been to shake and shake a while so I didn't realize the major changes they did to their service. In other words there is no service anymore. You have to go to a self-service kiosk to do your order, because there's no receptionist there. Then you have to pay for it right there and then they expect you to give them a tip on the order, even though you're doing the job of the waitress/ waiter, who is not there anymore. Then you have to scan a qr code at the self service drink station to get your drinks and refills, which is a joke. Then you have to go and pick up your own food at the counter. Steak and Shake has always been a childhood favorite growing up. It reminds me of being with family and eating good food with a shake. The food is okay, not what I remember, but the people are fantastic. They do need somebody to tell newcomers that you have to order on the kiosk, and they don’t wait on you anymore. There is a sign, but it is pretty small. Overall a pretty great experience. I wish they went back to human interaction for things instead of screens and scanners.

This was my first time inside since the removal of table service. It works good for to go orders but I'd rather have a server. It's like a cheaper version but less friendly version of 5 guys without the peanuts. There was a hostess to help me through my first online order and that was appreciated. I think it was inappropriate to ask for a tip for this kind of ordering and she was watching me so I felt obligated . I was disappointed the patty melt is no longer offered. Food was good and got and large size onion rings was plentiful. To go shakes seem small.

First off, you now have to order on a computer screen for yourself. Then we paid for the large cups and found out they didn't have any. We told someone and they just said they were out and since we were dining in we could just refill. Now you have to take a receipt up to the drink station and scan it just to get it to work for a refill. They don't bring the food to you. They just call your name out to come get it. This is NOTHING like steak n' shake used to be. They ask if you want to tip when you order. Why would I tip when I have to get everything myself? I'll never go back again.
