I did not know it was only a sandwich shop so I was expecting a full BBQ menu. There was maybe 4 choices and then some slaw or potato salad as your options unless you wanted chips. We bought the Pork BBQ and it's just OK at best, the sauce is a spicy sauce which is not what I really want on bbq. It's a fun little retro old school place to eat but honestly it wasn't worth the 28 bucks for the few sandwiches and meals we had and I left hungry. We gave it a shot and I'm glad I did but I'd pass to go back again. It seems busy though so apparently a lot of people like it. I definitely want to seek out more local BBQ menus in the future around the area! The ladies and staff were very friendly btw, it definitely wasn't them at all!
I’m 46 years old and I’ve been eating Starnes BBQ ever since I was old enough to eat it. When I want a quick meal I buy it by the sandwich or 2 and when I’m planning meals I buy it by the pound. Pork (Light Sauce) is my go-to. Absolutely delicious. The service is fantastic every time and I love the inside because it feels comfortable and nostalgic.
We stopped here while visiting Paducah for the Quilt Show. It was so good, we went a second time! It’s not super appealing on the outside, but it’s a BBQ must-stop. We saw it featured on Food Network’s Best Bite in Town and thought we’d give it a try. The staff were super friendly and hard working. The prices were unbelievable - $3.90 per sandwich! They have pork, beef, bologna, turkey and ham. We tried pork, turkey and ham. All were delicious! They come on toasted white bread with their house bbq sauce. Delicious! The meat is juicy and flavorful. You can really taste the smoke in the meat. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re in the area. It’s worth the stop!
Our family has been eating here since they opened. BUT, today I left INFURIATED. It was crowded and people were spaced out to get personal space. Long story short, tables near the door had people’s personal effects and were too short for me (I’m 6’4”). Finally, four stools opened up so we went to sit down but someone not very polite quickly hurried to sit in the middle one. So we had no room. We are convinced the “gentleman” who did this was not socially graced or formally educated. Which is the way it is BUT, the counter waitress let him knowing a family of four needed to be seated. She knew him because she called him by name. Yet She never consider asking him to take a single seat so a family could dine. Or even slide Over . She could’ve cared less about four vs. one customer f
This place is an absolute must stop! They have five meats, one sauce, and two sides on their menu; Pork, Beef, Ham, Turkey, Baloney, and potato salad or coleslaw. We shared three sandwiches and one of each side. It was all simply perfect. The sandwiches come with sauce or without, on grilled white bread and served perfectly wrapped in paper. It feels like the way it’s been done for 100 years, with no changes. It was super inexpensive, friendly, clean, unique, and delicious. One of our favorite stops ever, and by pure random chance. Absolutely must go here and step back in time if you’re nearby. Nothing fancy, just perfectly simple and good. Really friendly staff too, and it felt like they knew everyone that walked through the door.
