Somos Handcrafted Arepas

This has very quickly become one of my favorite places to eat. It’s in a very competitive area with tons of restaurants but it really stands out from the rest. Everything I’ve ordered so far has been unbelievably good and I’ve tried the arepas, cachapas, tequeños, empanadas, plantains and their fresh guava juice. Both the carnitas and the carne mechada are full of flavor, super tender while still having a good bite to it and not dry in the slightest. Cooked perfectly. Everything is very reasonably priced as well. You can get a large amount of delicious food for under $20 easily which is getting rare nowadays. Plenty of parking, knowledgably about them menu and options, and very friendly. Also, ample seating. Decided on stopping in and giving it a try. Place was very clean, and the customer service was good. I ordered the arepa and empanadas. Plenty of drink options for everyone. The only con was you cannot add guacamole to any dish not even for an upcharge.

I was out today planning to grab some Greek food and happened to drive into this plaza. I parked right in front of Somos Handcrafted Arepas in Shelton, CT, and as someone new to the area, I was so excited to discover a Venezuelan restaurant so close to home. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by Alejandro, one of the owners, who took the time to answer all my questions and offer excellent menu suggestions. I ordered a fully loaded bowl along with tequeños, and everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors were authentic, fresh, and incredibly satisfying. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was welcoming and vibrant, making the entire experience even better. My coworkers and I are obsessed with this place. I’m extremely picky with rice bowls. A lot of places tend to lack flavor and/or freshness. I had low expectations for this place. But I was so impressed. The flavors are incredible. The meat isn’t dry at all. The toppings are so fresh. Every time I get their bowl I ALWAYS finish it. I don’t get bored or tired of it. Sosososoooo friken delicious. They’re also really sweet. Good atmosphere and clean. Highly recommend this place to anyone. 💕

I came with my sisters and we each ordered something different from the menu and everything was so good. The owner was so kind and generous the food was amazing. I got the cachapa with meat and I was obsessed 😍 10/10 hands down.
