Smitty's Family Restaurant - Sault Ste Marie

My husband and I went to smittys for dinner last night and ordered fish and chips, steak with mashed potatoes and veggies and apple cinnamon crepes to take home. The waitress was phenomenal and very kind. Ps: I usually eat steak with ketchup and I absolutely did not need to so that's saying something 😅

I order the same thing regularly as I’m autistic. Originally I was coming here to talk about how amazing the person who cooked my steak is how perfect it was. And it was. But who butters cold bread? Who think it’s its normal to toast let it cool then add butter that won’t melt I don’t want to eat solid butter that’s very gross. The fact it didn’t melt on the way here tells me the bread was already ICE cold before the butter was added. At that point you redo the toast. Also raw cranberry is not for fruit salad the peaches were smashed to bits and over all the salad was mushy tart and just not worth 7$ Eggs were cooked perfect and hashbrowns like hashbrowns.

The food was good and the service was great. It’s a good place dining. I was there for a family dinner and we had a small reserved room that took about nine persons. I had their New York Steak. It was quite nice and tender.

I had breakfast and lunch at Smitty’s today, and unfortunately, it was a really disappointing experience — especially the fish and chips. The meal was extremely oily and greasy, with barely any actual fish inside the batter. It felt like eating fried oil rather than a proper meal. For the price, I expected something freshly cooked and appetizing, but it was far from that. Even the coffee and sides couldn’t make up for the poor quality of the main dish. The service was okay, but the food completely ruined the experience. I definitely wouldn’t recommend ordering fish and chips here, and I’ll think twice before coming back.

Went last night, the place was empty. Our server was incredibly kind and friendly. Since it's a chain restaurant, I usually keep my expectations low. I ordered the bacon jam smash burger. It was incredible! It was real beef, not the frozen pre made patties. I hope things pick up for them, it's nice to see that building open. I'll be going back.
