This spot is stellar! Every menu item is a hit. Food takes a bit to come out but is hot and fresh. Their musubi has a great rice to filling ratio and all of their sauces are well balanced. Their Kalua sisig is my favorite. The acidic pickled toppings cut the fatty flavorful meat perfectly. Not the spot for authentic filipino flavor but it is absolutely well worth the visit.
Small Kine was an awesome experience from start to finish. The crispy lumpia was perfectly fried and paired so well with the vinegar dipping sauce—it really elevated the flavor (I prefer the vinegar dipping sauce over the sweet ones at other places). The salmon musubi was hearty, filling, and had a great smoky taste that made it really stand out. The shrimp dish was also excellent, with delicious seasoning and high-quality, generously sized shrimp. The mac salad is also really good and I don't really like mac salad. On top of the food, the staff was incredibly friendly, and everything was prepared quickly without feeling rushed. Highly recommend checking this place out if you’re looking for Filipino/Hawaiian food in DC.
I've had the musubi, sisig, and Mac salad and all I can say is DELICIOUS!! My mouth is watering just thinking about their dishes. They always serve with a smile and I can't wait to go back for the best authentic local food. 😋😋
The staff was super friendly, explained the menu, gave us some recommendations, and got our orders right. I got their ahi tuna musubi. I tasted the main ingredient with sauce on the side. It was so flavorful, I could really taste the tuna! The tuna and rice portions were perfect for me. I highly recommend Small Kine for easy, casual and friendly dining.
My party of 3 from CA and NV had to try this Filipino-Hawaiian place in Union Market. Small Kine's take on pork adobo was my favorite: melt-in-your mouth bite-sized pork belly with just the right ratio of lean and fat, perfectly seasoned. Their musubis are large and filling. Nice to find a place in a tourist attraction without tourist prices. The Market is a buzzing place, a sensory treat. My party sat at a common table with a man who had never tried Filipino food. We let him sample our adobo, lumpia, and musubis, all of which he enjoyed. I call that ambassorship through food!
