Slowpoke Sourdough

I was visiting Lynchburg last weekend when I decided to check out the local farmers market Saturday morning. You know how it is when you’re traveling: you hope to stumble onto something authentically local, something the residents actually care about. That’s how I found Slowpoke. There was a steady stream of people at their booth, that kind of easy familiarity between the baker and customers that tells you these folks are beloved regulars. I grabbed a multigrain sourdough and a couple of chocolate croissants, figuring even if they were just good, they’d beat whatever I’d find at a chain bakery. They weren’t just good. Wonderful cottage bakery. When I think of heaven, I imagine eating bread and pastries like Brian and Miguel make. Slowpoke has great, locally sourced bread and innovative treats! I cannot recommend Slowpoke Sourdough enough! We have tried both bread and pastries and every single thing has been delicious! The scone was life changing! Even my extremely picky 6 year old likes their sourdough bread, and that really is the highest compliment. We've already placed an order for when family comes to visit because they need to experience this deliciousness!

Slowpoke Sourdough is a fantastic addition to both the Lynchburg Community Market and the local bakery scene. It’s the kind of bread that looks too perfect to eat—until you take that first bite, and then you’re hooked. I ordered a loaf of Pain au Levain and was not disappointed. Their locally sourced ingredients are a huge bonus, adding an extra layer of quality. I highly recommend the jalapeño croissant as well. This isn’t your grandma’s loaf—this is sourdough with an attitude!

Absolutely love their bread, we have signed up for the bread basket (Subscription) so now Friday is my favorite day - my kids basically renamed it bread-day! I have tried most of the varieties offered and truly love every one of them.
