Shay's Creole Smokehouse (Hosted by The Millstream)

First timers and we loved the food and service and enjoyed meeting the owner Shay. It is a super casual restaurant in the heart of historic St. Charles Main Street, where they specialize in smoked meats and Cajun-creole dishes. We opted for the smoked meats of brisket, pastrami, and pulled pork. Each was flavorful, tender and moist. We also tried the smoked dry rub wings appetizer special which were cooked perfect and flavorful. The sides we enjoyed were hush puppies, fries, baked beans and Mac & cheese. The hush puppies and fries were crisp and fluffy inside. The pit beans were excellent. The mac & cheese was basic as it was a thin cheese sauce with potato chip crumbs on top. Creole & BBQ....delightful & delicious! We had burnt ends, hush puppies, fried okra, red beans & rice, and potato salad. Each one of them was great. The burnt ends were tender with just the right amount of fat on them. The sauce was amazing. Hush puppies & burnt ends is a must try combo. The red beans were a little thicker than I prefer, but still super tasty. Finally, the bread pudding was a great finish

Cozy and quaint. Delicious flavors. From the okra appetizer ( best Okra ever) to the refreshing drinks, to the jumbo and fabulous desserts absolutely outstanding. Every side we had was great!!! The beans are the best !!! Service was kind courteous and efficient. Highly recommend!

Tried this spot for dinner with some friends. This a small place, but we enjoyed it. The service was great. The food was great. Nice menu with a mix of Cajun options and barbecue. The Boudaib Balls were a good start. Brisket chilli was phenomenal. The Pit Beans may have been the best beans I have ever had. They even had smoke cheesecake and apple cobbler. Would recommend this to anyone.

Shays was a fantastic experience. The food was excellent, the staff was friendly and the place itself has some charm. Here's what I'd recommend. Burnt Ends (not available every night) - Excellent burnt ends that pair well with their sauce. Very tender and flavorful. Brisket - thinly sliced (or slicely thinned?), good smoke, good moisture retention. I'll definitely try their French dip version, this would be perfect for that application with how they slice it. It's great brisket. Pastrami - great pastrami, brisket is better but I'd get this again. Hush puppies - sooo good get these. Bbq baked beans - these are great as well, if they had a little less sweet from the bbq sauce in there they'd be perfect. Creole corn - pretty good, like creole elote meets some kind of corn salad.
