WOW. This little bbq joint is a gem. Little place with big flavor. I've had bbq from all over and Shaffers is right up near the top. They have the best collards I've ever had. Sauces on the pork sammiches were so damn good. Can't wait to return. Havent tried the cookies yet, still too damn full. Thanks for a wonderful lunch and the stickers. You all rock bbq.

Was looking for some good BBQ, and I stumbled upon this place on my trip out into the Shenandoah area in Western Virginia. Service was very friendly. Atmosphere gives small town BBQ shop vibes; some pretty cool wall decor and picnic outdoor seating if desired. I asked the person working the counter what I should order, and she mentioned the ribs and mac n' cheese, so I got a whole rack of ribs and a side of mac n' cheese. The ribs tasted good, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much meat was on them. I can eat a full rack of ribs from a lot of places where I live because there's not a lot of meat on them. Always a treat eating at Shaffer's! Brisket was great, oysters were delicious, the voodoo chicken (special) was awesome, and everyone had a great time. I love the vinegar based BBQ, which is hard to find these days. The sides are always good - collard greens, mac & cheese, cornbread, and fries just to name a few. Only suggestion from me is to add fried okra to the menu but I love the variety and specialty seasonal foods. The service is always super friendly and the portions are large. Of course I'll be back!

It’s clearly popular with the locals, and we decided to take a little detour to check it out and we’re glad we did. The atmosphere is no frills and nostalgic, with walls lined with old license plates and vintage signs, giving it that cozy, down home family restaurant vibe, think Cracker Barrel, but more focused on barbecue. What a nice barbecue place. I got the brisket and my Dad got the barbecue, both very delicious. The restaurant has a rustic feel. Locally made items are for sale. Easy accessibility and clean restrooms. Friendly staff, the owner came out to say hi, which was a nice touch.
