Sekela Ethiopian Resturant

This is the place to be on Sundays at noon in the IE. I think it’s like main Ethiopian spot in the whole Inland Empire. The Ethiopian owner is a ball of light, she really took care of us. A true one woman army. Here is what I recommend for a party of 8-12. Order family style 2-3 vegetarian, then order 1-2 goat dishes for the meet eaters(trust me it tastes like beef you wouldn’t know the difference) and order the Ethiopian coffee ceremony. The vegan with meet dish combinations gives an explosion of flavor. It was so delicious and it’s popular place because folks of all flavors come in every 30 minutes for pick up or order to-go. Also they have a gift shop if you need to order netela or other cultural artifacts. As an African I felt like home.

The food here is absolutely delicious! My wife and I are fans of the restaurants in little Ethiopia/LA. This place blows them out of the water. The vegetable sampler was full of great flavors. The black seed and rosemary bread was really good. The two lamb tibs dishes were equally great. Our server (I apologize for not knowing how to spell her name) was so sweet and friendly. Very happy to have this restaurant close to us. We will be regulars for sure.

I was in the area and met my mom for lunch—she was craving Ethiopian food. We found Sekela Ethiopian Restaurant online, which just opened this past September, and it did not disappoint. Great food and perfect for satisfying a craving without having to drive all the way to OC or LA. If you’re in Corona or Riverside, definitely give it a try.

I’m a white boy with very little experience with Ethiopian cuisine. I went here for the first time the other day and I was pleasantly surprised! I had the Awase Tibs and the Lentil Sambusa. The tibs hearty chunks of beef that cooked in a sauce with incredibly deep and rich umami spicy flavor. It was not too salty and there were caramelized onions, serranos and bell peppers. They include a pancake-like bread that you rip and dip and grab the food with. I think it’s incredibly delicious, it’s different, and I think that more restaurants like this, that share culture, should exist. I’m happy that in a sea of tacos and burgers, I can find something different!

I was visiting the city for a short trip, and since I can’t survive without Ethiopian food (especially injera!), I had to find a spot. At first, I was a little hesitant because I didn’t see many reviews, but the owner explained she had just opened the restaurant. I decided to try it anyway and ordered kitfo and awaze tibs and wow! The kitfo was so delicious, it reminded me of home. The injera was soft, fresh, and perfect. Honestly, this turned out to be the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had in the U.S. If I’m ever back in California, this will be my number one go-to place. Highly recommend!
