I was surprised by wait line just 20min after opening. The menu is short and simple. The chicky sandwich was really good. I wish I can say the same for tuna melt. It was just meh. I wish I could try their strawberry lemon cake but they were out of it at the moment. It looked amazing.
I came across Salty Lunch Lady’s Little Luncheonette on YouTube one night when I was half awake / half asleep and saved it on my maps for my yearly trip to the city… and I’m so glad I did. This place is the definition of a hidden gem. The food is next level — like the kind of good where you take one bite and immediately feel validated for saving it months ago. Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and made with actual care. The dill party turkey was so good it literally disappeared before I could even take a pic. Gone. No evidence. Just a memory and zero regrets. The cream corn sandwich was unreal — crispy, buttery, sweet + savory, and ridiculously satisfying. It’s one of those dishes that sounds simple but eats like something you’ll randomly think about weeks later. And the fig pie? Perf
Great neighborhood spot! Seems like it has a lot of the original fixings and charm. I had the chicky and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was divine! Always a long line on the weekends (sometimes out the door) but it moves quickly. Once you’ve ordered, be ready to wait 25-30 minutes for your sandwich though! It will be worth the wait. There is some outdoor seating too for the warmer months.
I absolutely love Salty Lunch Lady! I live around the corner and have been too many times to count. The rotating desserts are so so so good, in particular the passion fruit and raspberry ones I’ve had were mind blowing, and this place knows how to make a real good cookie. The sandwiches are consistently excellent. I have a soft spot for the Chicky and Dill Party but the Sunday specials and all regular sandwiches are also really delicious. So glad you’re here!
I really wanted to like Salty Lunch Lady, but I honestly don’t get the hype. The sandwiches are small, slow to come out, and expensive, ranging from about $14–$18, and there’s nothing about them that feels special. The ingredients might be good quality, but the execution is very basic. We tried the chicken sandwich and the turkey sandwich and both were just okay. Nothing memorable. The seeded sesame bun didn’t taste very fresh either, which is a big miss for a sandwich spot. The service setup is also strange. You have to grab your own sandwich, your own utensils, and then bus your own plates and cups afterward. For those prices, that feels off. It’s not a casual deli price point, but it’s a self-service experience. I will say, the desserts are excellent. The ginger cake was moist and th
