Sal's NY Pizza- King Street

I have had Sals stk & ch subs many times. I usually pick it up. They are fantastic. Unfortunately I hit delivery last night. My order was made at 510pm wasn't picked up till 537pm. The delivery girl did her best to get it to me by 6pm(558pm). Everything was cold. The onion rings were un-eatable. My wife reheated both subs so it wasn't a total loss. Sals needs to do a better job. Having the food ready. When it's being picked up. Not sitting around 20minutes waiting.

Pizza is pretty decent. Please be aware that if you call an order in or order at the counter you will pay more. If you order online even with the service fee you will pay less which is usually the opposite. Plus they do not offer any military discount.

I used to live off King St and order pizza and lamb gyro from Sal's. They had the best lamb gyro. It has been about 3 years since I last ordered from Sal's. I ordered Pizza, Gyro combo and two side salads. The pizza was near perfect and the salads were crisp and fresh with tomatoes onions cucumbers and croutons. All of that was near perfect. They gyro was not tasty at all. Lots of lettuce, tomato and onion and small amount of gyro lamb. There was no feta cheese on the gyro. The tzatziki sauce had no flavoring at all. It looked like plain yogurt or mayonnaise and there was no flavoring at all. It definitely was not a Greek tzatziki sauce. There was no dill, cucumber, garlic or olive oil in the sauce. I ended up only eating a few bites of the gyro and then tossing it.

Ok so don’t judge me but I went for the first time a while back and got the deluxe cheese steak with no mushroom substitute jalapeños and it was so delicious I ordered another one right after I ate the first one (big back)lol but now i get the same sub combo every time it’s always fresh and hot I had the pizza today also with the Italian sub combo and buffalo wings and all was great and delicious and fresh so if you want to try sals go to this one and not Newport News cause I had a bad experience years ago and they are not affiliated with that one

I usually order from Domino's, but today decided to try a local place to support local businesses. Perhaps I just got a bad day. I ordered a Hawaiian pizza and Garlic knots. The pizza as you can see had toppings missing from sections and it would slide off the slices as I picked them up. Flavor wasn't very pronounced either, no sweetness from the pineapple, salty from the pork, or spicy from the jalapenos, just kinda "yep that's pizza with stuff on top" experience. The garlic knots look nothing like the pictures on the website, these were just burnt doughnuts with Parmesan cheese powder on top. The marinara dipping sauce was also just meh. I was hopping these would redeem the pizza, but they let me down as well. Well lesson learned for next time I want pizza, just stick with what I
