Sakana

Sakana is easily one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area, and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere hits you first — dim lighting, glowing lanterns, and that huge fish tank that gives the whole place a calm, relaxing vibe. It feels like stepping into a little escape from the busyness outside, and it always sets the mood for a great meal. The sushi here is incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. Whether it’s the classic rolls or the creative special rolls, everything tastes like it was made with real care. The fish is tender, the rice is perfectly seasoned, and the sauces are balanced — never too heavy, never too salty. Even simple dishes stand out. You can tell the chefs take pride in what they do. Great sushi spot. Been dining here for years. Surprisingly great special rolls and the fish is always great quality. Our favorites are the crystal roll, fantastic roll, and the mango roll. We try something new every time and this time we ordered the salmon skin hand rolls and we were not disappointed. For dessert, their fried ice cream is delicious.

This is it!!! New favorite sushi spot. I used to go to Bada when I lived closer to Suffern, but of all the sushi places I've tried in the Nanuet area, Sakana is by far the most refined, fresh, and authentic. This place knows real sushi and has a nice wine and dessert selection as well. All of my meals here have been exceedingly delicious - go see for yourself! P.S. The best roll is the Bounty Hunter Roll if you like yellowtail, toro, and eel!

Fish tasted very fresh, waiter/host was very friendly and gave great recommendations, and the bathroom was clean! Prices are average for non-AYCE sushi. We enjoyed the Bounty Hunter and Fantastic Rolls the best. One of them came with a really good sauce, almost like an eel sauce/spicy mayo mixed.

It's was my first time having sushi as an adult .....it was 美味しい 🍣🍥🦪and there was 🍸🍸🍸fully stocked bar I saw ....nice you looking for a low-key and great food /drinks 😋 🇯🇵
