Sakana Sushi in DC is always a great choice for fresh and flavorful sushi. The eel nigiri was perfectly glazed and tender with a rich, smoky sweetness that melted into the rice. The sushi platter had a nice variety, all fresh and well-prepared, and the presentation was simple but elegant. Paired with pickled ginger and fresh wasabi, every bite was satisfying.
This restaurant may feel a bit intimidating from the outside, as it doesn’t have the polished look of many upscale Japanese establishments. However, once inside, it reveals itself to be a cozy, small, and well-run place. The service is moderate, but the food is consistently on point and reasonably priced. I especially love their Oyakodon. Every time I have it, the flavor genuinely reminds me of what you would find in Kyoto.
I have been going here since 1991. Hands down the best sushi in the DMV! I will not waste money on any other sushi! Always friendly and quick service! Has been run by the same very sweet woman since I have been going there and she has a great memory! Always fresh and tasty! I wish they would reopen for lunch!! You won't be disappointed by the quality, price, and service!! LOVE SAKANA!!
My favorite sushi spot. Great quality for the price. The spider roll is my favorite sushi ever. Perfect spot to come with a couple friends and hang out.
I never leave reviews but had to here. Nice small space, the appetizer was good. Chirashi Bowl though, be aware you'll 4-5 have thumbnail size off-cuts, and mostly just decorative filler like ginger and leaves. I asked if this was normal, saying it looks a bit meager, they argued that the chef has 35 years of experience. After a short back and forth, the owner lady who is quite kind made the rude reluctant chef give me a few extra pieces. By that, he meant 2 slices that don't add to a whole. I'm no foodie, I'm no expert, but I do know a chirashi bowl, and this wasn't it.
