Red Fish Restaurant

The lovely couple who we are dog sitting for this week gave us a gift certificate for Red Fish. So, we made a reservation and ate there last night. The space is really nice. Comfortable and inviting. The service is TOP NOTCH. There was a really good jazz type band playing in the bar room. Really enjoyed listening to them. We started with a red wine and a Manhattan. Both were pretty good. The Manhattan was a bit expensive for the rye I ordered, but only a couple of bucks more than standard. Shared a green fried tomato starter. Very tasty. Lots of greens but only two tomatoes. Red fish was recommended to us by friends. We decided to check it out. Its a great setting, great wine choices, and we ordered the dish our friends recommended. The food was great, wine selection superb but that is where the positives end. The bartender was disorganized got us seated and then moved us because she seated us in reserved seats. She spent most of the time chatting to friends at the bar. We waited about 10 minutes to reorder drinks and then she tried to charge us $140 for four $10 glesses of wine!. My wife tried to explain our frustration and she turned her back and walked away. Needless to say service is a big part of the dining experience. Red Fish will not be added to our list of favorites HHI has so many wonderful options and as locals we support the non chain restaurants

Best bite of vacation so far… fried green tomato caprese! We also tried calamari, shrimp and lobster sandwich and roasted chicken with miso! Not a bad bite of food! Great service too!!!

We came as a group and ordered the deviled crab (yum) and the she crab soup and peeled shrimp. The she crab soup was not the best and was mistaken for grits and the peeled shrimp was lacking any flavor. The Oxtail saved the day and was so yummy! The fried chicken was good as well!

This was our first time on Hilton Head Island. We stumbled on this place while riding around and looking for a nice place to go eat. We definitely were not disappointed. It was a Sunday night, and we did not have reservations. I walked up to the Hostess and said that we had a party of 4 and asked if it was possible to get a table. The Hostess was very pleasant and stated that she would fit us in, but it would probably be a 15 to 20-minute wait. I asked if we could wait at the bar, and she politely pointed me to the area behind her workstation. We walked over to the bar and a female bartender with a nice smile took our drink order and served us very quickly. The bar area had seating for dining adjacent to it.
