My partner and I have attended 2 woodworking classes at Recess Grove and we can’t say enough good things!! The instructors and staff are so friendly and the space feels supportive and inspiring. We always leave feeling fulfilled and excited about the new skills we’ve learned.

Love Recess Grove! I’ve now taken a couple of different classes here (a drawing class, and the 5-week woodworking class), and have had such an amazing time. Each instructor has been so thoughtful, kind, and patient - they have the ability to break complex art forms down into absolute beginner terms. I particularly enjoyed the woodworking class. Kaitlyn and Justin are phenomenal teachers. I literally went into this class knowing ZERO - (never even touched a saw) and came out building a beautiful shelf, and more importantly developing a strong foundation in hand woodworking. Recess Grove is the epitome of community and hospitality in Williamsburg. Jessie is an absolute pleasure to work with. ❤️ I’ve attended both a floral class and a small-group mural painting event here, and both experiences left me wanting to return for more. - Floral class: The group was filled with kind, welcoming people, and the instructor (a talented florist with his own studio) was patient, skillful, and brought incredible-quality flowers. - Mural painting: A memorable and peaceful experience. You hear a lot about third spaces lately and I didn’t appreciate what it really meant given how transactional New York can be. I tried plenty of pay to play spots with friends and it always went the same. It’s a “creative” space that doesn’t quite get the community part right. From the first workshop class, Recess Grove cleared all of that up for me. It’s a true third space where the creativity meets the community in a way that’s authentic and very intentional. After having gone to a few events now, I can confidently say that’s their focus to build connections through the arts while having fun with it.
