Poet’s Gear Emporium

We came here in 2020 and Poet outfitted us completely. Me and my husband both got new packs, new trekking poles, new shoes, and Poet gave us advise on how to get our pack weights down. He truly saved our thru-hike because we were ready to quit. We're back in 2025 and the gear shop is still well stocked, and Poet is still super friendly and helpful.

One of the best places to go to get gear, info, and help on anything you need. They have just about everything a hiker needs and more, including a hiker box for any misc items you don't need on the trail. Poet and Kim are amazing people, very friendly and knowledgeable about everything there is to do with hiking. 10/10 place, will definitely visit again. Also sign up for their breakfast, it's good!

Lastly, don't forget to experience his hiker hostel "Shaw's Hiker Hostel" in Monson to begin your 100 mile wilderness trip or southbound on Appalachian Trail. The hostel is not to be missed, hands down the best hostel, people and outfitter on the Appalachian Trail!!

Poet's Gear Emporium was the whole enchilada. A place where knowledge, experience, family, and yes... even a bit of poetry collide to give you not the experience you wanted, but the experience you needed. Poet fixed me up right, set me straight, helped me to find what I needed (gear wise and spiritually), helped me to lose what I didn't need, then sent me back to trail with some mental filet mignon to chew on. A true scholar, gentleman, and family man, on a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate my experience as, "Yes, go there!" and allow yourself to be unburdened and uplifted in every way you needed!
