Peppermint Cottage B & B

Diane was a wonderful host. She welcomed us warmly and helped us get situated. The cottage was lovely and cozy. After riding our bikes all day on the Erie Canal Trail, the private hot tub behind the house was just what we needed to relax, have a glass of wine, and rejuvenate! Definitely worth the stay.

My husband and I needed a peaceful 'downtime' get-away and found the perfect place to hideaway at the Peppermint Cottage B&B. We came for the foliage drive up through NY State, we came for rest and we came to visit some of the great finger lake wineries. Mission accomplished! The B&B is lovely - we stayed upstairs in the Jackson room, which is part of the main house. Spacious room, extremely clean and nice bathroom with plenty of towels and amenities. Be aware that you do share the home with the owners, Diane and Mark, who are lovely and make every effort to stay out of your way (although if you do want some company, they are there for great conversation and to tell you all about the schoolhouse and things to do in the area.) I never thought I would want to stay at a b&b in my area, but I'm so glad I did! I visited once with my husband and the second time for a get away with high school friends. The location is a few miles from the village of Lyons, but feels like you are in the Adirondacks. It is quiet and cute with great attention to detail (for example, being greeted by a crackling fire in the colonial bee hive fireplace.) The breakfast is very tasty. Having it delivered, set up, and the candles lit just added to the experience! The outdoor hot tub and sauna nestled on the hillside among the trees is magical. I have shared this review verbally through the years with many friends. I look forward to my next visit!

My brother and I stayed here while cycling the Erie Canal Trail. The cottage is a few miles off the trail (via some hilly country roads). This explains my low score on location. Obviously, if you are in a car this would not be a problem. Likewise, there is no place nearby to eat - although the owners - who live in an adjacent property - stocked the refrigerator with the makings for a hearty breakfast (eggs, cheese, toast). They even offered to cook us breakfast if we wanted (we declined as we wanted to get an early start). If you are arriving by bike you need to bring your own food to cook for dinner (we brought ramen noodles), or you can have eggs. The cottage itself is charming and clean and has three double beds.

We stayed at the Peppermint Cottage two nights while visiting an old family homestead in nearby Lock Berlin. The cottage is a separate small house connected by a breezeway to the home where the owners live in a former one-room school house. A warm private outdoor hot tub is a few steps away and was a pleasure to soak in while gazing at the night sky. Our hosts prepared a fire in the fireplace each evening while we were out to dinner and discreetly delivered nicely prepared breakfasts in the morning. The location is quiet and serene; the cottage cozy and comfortable; and the hosts friendly & helpful. We would not hesitate to stay there again.
