Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park

This was are 3rd trip in the past 6 years. The first time was in 2020, 2nd time with friends in 2021 and just past weekend with friends. We stayed in the 2 Bedroom cabin. It had a wonderful location and very quiet. Nice view of the lake from the patio. We enjoyed the peaceful and relaxing time together. Check in was excellent and staff was wonderful and very friendly greeting. We had a few issues with the cabin, and let staff know. They offered some fire wood for us. During checkout they give us a discount for the issues with the cabin. I wanted to recognized a wonderful staff member Emma! She took the extra time to speak with us and give us some real nice advise for future visits. We are planning to return this summer with our campers. This is a good area to hike. Great views, makes the hike more enjoyable. I didn't really rate the rooms, cabins do look like in good shape. It appears to be a good lake for fishing. The restaurant is awesome to visit after a long like. I like their catfish dinner, fried green tomatoes and the fried pickle spears.

We stayed in the lake view cottage #508. The cottage had a great view of the lake and the bed was very comfortable. The employees were very friendly and welcoming. I recommend the Sunday lunch buffet, it was great!! Hopefully we will be back in summer or fall to try out the campground. 👍

We go for the walk with our 3 pups and it's a really nice hike. There are a couple steep parts where the rocks are and where the small damn is but for the most part its an easy hike around a smaller lake. For those that haven't been here there is also a restaurant, park ranger station and a little gift shop inside. They have tennis, courts basketball, (summer months) I've seen the rec area and water open across the lake by the boat ramps. They have lots of water activities as well. Guided tours with the park staff kid and dog friendly. If your handicap it is wheelchair accessible. Plenty of parking and i believe there are cabins on one side and hotel room in the main building where the restaurant is. Hope this helps anyone wanting to come here. Cabins: Everything was in fine condition but dated. Minimal decor and vinyl furniture. Was acceptable for a work outing. Lodge: Staff were nice and friendly and we did a buffet dinner that was above expectations. Pool was closed for maintenance which was a total bummer, but went to the beach and it was a good experience. Golf: We played a round of golf and the course was in good shape and enjoyed it. Overall not a bad experience just don’t go expecting the “Resort” experience. Returned again for our yearly work outing in August of 2025 and the cabins were slightly refreshed/updated. I couldn't quite put my finger on what had changed but they seem just a little more modern. It was not the furniture, but they might have painted and updated lighting fixtures.
