Peking Gourmet Inn

Once upon a time you came here for a good meal at a reasonable price. You arrived and the walls, adorn with portraits of politicians and Hollywood elites, welcomed you into the hallowed main dinning room. They elevated the atmosphere, but the overall retro feel balanced the scale, good food, fair price, strip mall, next to a convenience store or two selling malt liquor and 40ozs. Fast forward to today. $18 cocktails, $80 duck, $49 Leek Spouts with Shrimp. The portraits have yellowed with age, the staff is still very helpful, but balance it once had is off kilter now. It's still next to a convenience store, in a strip mall, is fine overall food, but the prices are higher than downtown DC. In my opinion, the prices are just too high for the level of food.

You can tell by the ambiance that you've stepped into a place that had served famous people. There is an old time classic Chinese restaurant vibe here. The ambiance is gorgeous, the decor is history, with pictures of patrons from wall to wall. The servers and staff are professionally dressed, I felt underdressed Walked into the place around 2:50pm, as i read through the menu, and decide on the lunch special, the waiter says, sorry but it's after 3pm (3:02pm) no more lunch special. Bummed, as now the prices from lunch to dinner are a 3-4 dollar amount difference, portion might be larger, but for one person, I didn't need more of just one dish, I wanted variety. This place is one of the most famous Peking duck restaurants in the area, so it was incredibly crowded when we visited. The duck itself was delicious, and the other dishes were all above average as well. The service wasn’t unfriendly, but it wasn’t particularly warm either—pretty much what you’d expect from a typical busy Chinese restaurant.

Peking Gourmet Inn is an absolute legend in Falls Church. This place has been a community staple for decades, and it shows everyone from local families to politicians and celebrities has eaten here, and for good reason. Their signature Peking Duck is the star of the show. It comes out perfectly roasted, and the staff slices it right in front of you with the kind of precision that turns dinner into a performance. The crispy skin, the warm homemade pancakes, the fresh scallions grown on their own farm every detail is next-level. The restaurant itself is spacious and classic, but don’t let that fool you it gets busy fast. Reservations are definitely recommended. The Peking Gourmet Inn 🇨🇳 clearly has had better days…also prices are severely inflated and quality/price ratio is not there (xtip $222 for 2 adults + 2 kids). Probably in a large group setting cost will get diluted, but still found prices too high for the experience and the food itself. Happy to have a second go to try other dishes, but I was not impressed. Food wise the Snow peas with roasted garlic were very good, the ribs appetizer was ok, the rice and lo mein were also ok, and the famous Peking duck was a 7 out of 10 (the pancakes were dry & flour forward). 🦆 🍜 🫛
