Parkhurst Brothers and Ted Parkhurst have been involved with the promotion and preservation of the oral tradition for several decades. In addition to their stellar inventory of storytelling themed books and publications they have been loyal and enthusiastic supporters of the oral tradition through their financial support of storytelling festivals and organizations. Without the involvement and support of Ted Parkhurst through the years, the storytelling revival that has taken place since the 1970s would not have been nearly so successful.

The focus of Parkhurst Brothers is storytelling, and they are dedicated to the support of the storytelling community. Working with them on my book, Telling Twain, Ted and Linda were supportive every step of the way. They love their craft, and it shows in the incredible support they provide to those lucky enough to work with them.

I have had the rich pleasure of being published by Parkhurst Brothers. It is not a large publishing company warehouse, instead it is an impressive and dedicated press, run by the talented Ted and Linda Parkhurst, who works diligently to promote the art of oral storytelling and storytellers. His work doesn’t end with collections of stories, but he also has published definitive work on the process. He has given voice to the pioneers of the art but also is willing to listen to new authors with powerful stories to share. I don’t consider myself just a contributing author, but more like a partner in the mission of valuing and supporting storytellers and the art of storytelling. I look forward to continuing this partnership as a consumer of these necessary books, an advocate for the press, a

For several years, Ted Parkhurst heard my personal stories at storytelling conferences. Every time we met thereafter, he let me know of his interest in seeing a manuscript from me. Of course, I declined. I knew I wasn't a writer. Eventually I shared with him a raw transcript of a stage performance of those stories. With his encouragement (and eventual editorial skills) that transcript became a book... an actual published book ("Stories of a Forest Ranger"). I'd never thought it possible that my stage stories would see print. Thanks to Ted, it became a reality.
