Ox 9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodles

So excited that Ox9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodle just opened in Berkeley! I used to have to go outside of Berkeley whenever I was craving good hand pulled noodles, so I’m really happy we finally have a spot like this here. I ordered the Beef noodle with pickles (their recommended dish), and it did not disappoint. The broth was rich and flavorful, with a deep, rich flavor. The hand pulled noodles were fresh and perfectly chewy, and the beef was tender and well-seasoned. The portion size was generous and very satisfying. The restaurant itself feels clean and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and helpful. For a newly opened place, they’re already doing an amazing job. Definitely a great addition to Berkeley, and I’ll be coming back!

Kind of disappointed… maybe I didn’t order the right things? The beef bone is the biggest disappointment… the meat quality is not good you can taste it (it’s significantly worse than if I bought beef rib myself and stew it at home even without any seasoning). There was nothing wrong about the flavors they made, but the meat itself was not good. The portion of the appetizer is also so small given that it costed $9. Other similar restaurants charge similar price for similar appetizers but they definitely have much larger portions. The noodle portion was sufficient but not as large as people have mentioned about. I just saw that Ox9 Lanzhou Handpulled Noodle recently opened, and I had to try it immediately. I’ve literally had to drive outside of Berkeley before to get good hand pulled noodles like this, so seeing one finally open here made me so excited. The space feels brand new and super clean, and everything already runs smoothly. The staff was friendly and helpful when I was deciding what to order. I went with their recommended Special Beef Bone Noodle Soup, and it was exactly what I’ve been craving. The broth was rich, deep, and comforting, like it had been simmered for hours. This is a very authentic Lanzhou noodle restaurant. Since it is currently in the peak period of its soft opening, there is usually a wait and seating is limited. The menu offers a wide variety of noodle options, and vinegar is provided at the table so you can adjust the flavor to your preference. Some dishes may be sold out during the soft opening, so it’s recommended to choose from the “Chef’s Recommendations.” Overall, a great place to try if you enjoy traditional Lanzhou noodles.
