A surprisingly wonderful Indian food restaurant in the area! There were a variety of flavors and the service was great. Ordered samosas, pepper chicken, okra, saag with lentils, and chicken vindaloo - everything was delicious! Spices seemed authentic and not overpowering. The vindaloo was very spicy, hit the tongue like fireworks, and still had great flavor! The okra and pepper chicken were favorites! Garlic naan was so good too! Recommended.
fresh and lovely phuchka, delicious iced tea (milk and cinnamon!!), and a wonderful lunch special! friend and i got lamb (rogan josh) and chicken kadai. both great, but my personal favourite was the stir-fry cabbage! great place near the station here in LIC. would come back!
I ordered lunch from this place through Uber Eats and was excited when I saw the name Oh! Calcutta, since the original restaurant in Kolkata is a premier spot I know well from back home. I was delighted to find Indian Bengali food available here in New York, and although I had thought of visiting for dine-in, I decided to try delivery first. I began with the Gobi Manchurian (indo- Chinese style cauliflower appetizer). The portion size was underwhelming—just a handful of florets—and the taste was only average. What surprised me most was the use of whole green cardamom pods in what was supposed to be an Indo-Chinese dish, which felt out of place. Not terrible, but definitely not the Manchurian flavor I’m used to. Next was the Murgir Jhol (Bengali home style light chicken curry), which was
Stopped by for a quick lunch on a weekday. The food was absolutely delicious. I got spinach paneer with cabbage and bread. Rasmalai was for dessert. The place was pretty empty, very clean. Bathroom was tidy. I really liked that they didn’t play loud music. It was at an unobtrusive volume and it was instrumental Indian music. It is such a rarity nowadays. Oftentimes I try to leave a restaurant or a store as soon as possible because of an annoying music or something on TV. I wish I came to the area more often to eat at this place. The only minus is that they do not serve alcohol.
I came here to grab some food to-go and had a pleasant experience! The interior of the restaurant is casual, and there's plenty of seating. The staff here are super sweet and easy to talk to. I got their butter chicken with garlic naan and it took about 10 minutes for my order to be ready. Would love to come back to try their $13 lunch special!
