Northern Spy

I have been here multiple times— every time a great experience! I have been with family, friends, with adults only or with children. Staff was always friendly and food was SO delicious! It also didn’t feel too expensive. It is also a cute and comfortable place to dine. I wish it was a little warmer- but I feel like most restaurants run a little bit colder than I want, so I won’t take off stars for that. I love this place— you probably will, too!

Amazing historic venue, captained by creative and talented Chef Marc Sheehan with fabulous flavor profiles in every bite! This is a truly unique dining experience from start to finish! The restaurant is housed in the historic Paul Revere home in Canton MA and the welcoming wood fire grill in the open kitchen pays homage to the forges from centuries prior. Cocktail selection was excellent and service by Kyle was superb throughout the evening. The hand made pull-apart bread rolls with smoked salted butter to start the meal were piping hot and melted in your mouth, with the smoked salted butter adding lovely nuanced flavor to the butter. I dined at Northern Spy in Canton, Massachusetts in May 2025, and this was a very strong five-star experience. Honestly, I’m surprised it doesn’t have higher reviews—this place is exceptional on every level. Located inside the beautifully restored Copper Rolling Mill at the Paul Revere Heritage Site in Canton, the restaurant is open, airy, and tastefully designed. It’s easy to get to—Lyft from my hotel in Canton was a breeze (in fact, getting around Canton felt easier than navigating Boston). My server, Devin, was absolutely wonderful—warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the food. When I asked for a recommendation, she immediately suggested the fish sandwich. The Best!!! We had a fabulous attentive waitress, who made our girl's lunch gathering one of the best. When two of us ordered a B&B one the rocks, we were momentarily disappointed when they didn't have any. The bartender stepped up and made us her version-And let me tell you, it was better than the bottle. So much so, we asked for the mix and instructions, how many ounces of this and that.

Potential to be very good, but ..My braised beef dish was very good but not sure I'll return due to other issues. They wouldn't offer any substitution for broccoli for a member of our party. Either just a horrible policy or chef is arrogant. All of the tables wine glasses had to go back because they were noticably dirty. Waitress was nice and was trying but lacked some basic training. Not what we expected for a meal that cost $110+tip per person. We enjoyed the atmosphere which was very unique. I don't think they are far from being a good restaurant. I hope they take this feedback to heart and make the necessary changes.
