I went to this beach for the shells, etc. I did find quite a bit of shells for painting, etc. The beach is quiet and the view is pretty. I parked in lot I. The lot is not close to the beach. It's quite a bit of a walk and you will be walking in the sand. There is no mat on this beach. The walk would have been easier if I had the proper shoes. I did find alot of trash down by the shore area. Swimming is prohibited and there is a bathroom at the entrance. I won't be coming back to this beach anytime soon.
This is a beach if you are at Sandy Hook - Gateway National Recreation Area that will be the least amount of people. HOWEVER you have some issues. 1) NO Swimming here 2) you have 1/2 mile walk to the beach across open sand. If that works for you, you are rewarded with cool views of NYC, quiet beach, and clear water.
Visited weekday - less crowd compared to other place as you need to drive more . Beach is good . Life guard available. It’s far from parking lot . You need to walk at least 10-15 min from parking lot. Shower and bathroom decent but need to walk at least 10 min to reach beach . Huge parking lot . Good for bike riding . Due to Covid beach shop may close so possible you need to bring your own food and water . Beach having more rock. Good NY view . You can see dolphins if you are lucky. I guess 9-5 - parking rate $20 . After 5 pm it will be free . Check exact timing on their website .
This is the northernmost beach you can drive to (and eventually walk to) on Sandy Hook. It is actually quite far from the car park, so be warned of that. The trail has some very thick sand and is quite the challenge, but it is a good work out. Next, you’ve got restrooms and a food place that are open in the summer, as well as a deck with many interpretive signs and views of the City and beyond. Worth a stop for sure. Cheers.
Nice and calm...perfect for a relaxing Saturday. Even though the walk to the parking lot and changing rooms are s bit of a hike from the beach, it is still worth it. $15/car when parking. Wish we saw signs to bring your own umbrellas and chairs before hand as there is no where to rent while on the beach.
