Nicosi

Hi ladies and gents, my name is Josh. I try to keep my digital footprint as low as possible, but I wanted to share my lovely experience at Nicosi. For background I am not a big fine dining person, I’m not a chef or a food critic. I just like food and I have only been to one other restaurant that was given a star by the tire company that has a hold on the restaurant industry. It was difficult not to compare the two when they had so much in common at baseline, such as how they presented every dish with care, creativity and reason; but were very different in the type of food and flavors. Congrats Nicosi on the Michelin star- well deserved- changing the game with a dessert restaurant!! Finally getting around to my review of Nicosi- it took this long to craft the review because of how great the experience was! When I heard about an restaurant with an 8-course dessert menu, I had to say yes and am so glad I did!! No pics are allowed during the dinner which helps you be present. Shoutout to Ben, Katelynn, and Delissa! You all made this such a wonderful evening!! Being an Emmer & Rye concept, I knew it was going to be excellent. I won’t give much more about the food because you need to experience it for yourself and the menu may have changed by the time you get to go.

We tried Nicosi that features an 8-course dessert tasting menu with four flavor profiles highlighted—acid, umami, bitter, and sweet. Two courses were presented for each flavor profile and are paired with either a cocktail or non-alcoholic beverage offering. It’s a very unique experience curated from Chef Tavel, who San Antonio is blessed to have as founder of this Michelin restaurant, Esquire Pastry Chef of the Year, and James Beard National Outstanding Chef Nominee. No photography was permitted during the experience, and the menu rotates every 3-4 months

What a cool and fun experience in San Antonio, we had a great time. The dessert menu was filling and the chefs did a great job with presentation. Would definitely go back!

It's hard for me to rate Nicosi because even though I personally didn't enjoy half the dishes, I can't deny they are trying something worthwhile. I was really looking forward to this because at the few tasting menu style Michelin starred places I've been to, the desserts have always been exceptional. I actually really enjoyed the acid course and the umami course was genuinely amazing but I really struggled to eat both the bitter and sweet courses. They accomodated dietary restrictions really well and were very open to talking about their dishes in detail if you asked.
