New Canaan Library

I feel very sad that I haven’t had a positive experience at the New Canaan Library. This is only my personal experience, and I know it cannot be generalized. I visit this library about twice a month with my 10-year-old son, who is autistic and nonverbal. The children’s room is usually busy with many kids. However, I often feel that, for the number of children there, there are not enough activities or materials available for them to play with. What has been most difficult for me is the attitude toward my child. I have not felt that the way my autistic son is treated is kind or welcoming. I truly hope that the staff working there can receive more awareness or training in how to interact with children with special needs. Gorgeous. Love the study and conference rooms that you can reserve but Wi-Fi is spotty and I could not connect for the first 45 min due to lack of availability.

Very nice facility and delightful staff

Beautiful facility but lacking in one thing: serious books. Admittedly it's a community library catering to, first and foremost, schoolkids, but walking around one is struck by the preponderance of cliched titles on trite low-brow topics, somewhat shocking in a town with as many highly educated professional residents as New Canaan, but probably like turning on the TV or going to the movies, just another reflection of the sad state of modern American culture. The history section is little more than a joke, with the entire compendium of English history consisting of maybe 40 books of which probably only ten can be considered up to date and/or serious. May I suggest that one or more of the librarians make a point of dropping by the book sale section of St Mark's Mayfair each year where somet
