Myung Ga Korean Cuisine

Came here with 4 adults and a child. We had just visited Descanso gardens on a cold afternoon. Soup sounded like a good plan and we were craving Korean. This place was less than 10 minutes away. We were seated right away and were offered cold barley tea (I believe) and hot tea. We ordered 2 soups, kalbi ribs, and pork cutlet. Banchan dishes were cabbage kimchi, radish, and fish cakes. My daughter devoured the fish cakes and we had to get more. The kimchi was so delicious. It was crunchy, a little spicy and sweet, and tasted so fresh. The server told us it was made fresh every day. When our first soup arrived (sullongtang) we got a little scared- the portion was huge! We didn't think we would be able to finish everything we ordered. Myeong-ga (명가) truly lives up to its name [which means "famous/prestigious house"]. Have you ever had a soup that is both steaming hot and incredibly refreshing? The Galbi-tang (beef short rib soup) here delivers exactly that—a taste only those who've experienced it can truly appreciate. We also ordered the Bossam (boiled pork slices). The accompanying whole-leaf kimchi was served not in small pieces, but in generous, beautiful quarters. This felt like a genuine gesture of respect for the guests. That feeling of being well-cared-for is something you have to experience for yourself. I also ordered the Seonji Haejang-guk (hangover soup with congealed ox-blood). While it might fall slightly short of a dedicated specialty Seonji place, the fact that I left not a single drop in the bowl says

A great gem in the area. The prices here are great, the indoor ambiance is nice & relaxing, the staff have nice attitude, and the flavor is amazing! I highly recommend trying this place either dine in or take out. Also, their tables are clean and have a neat feature of a compartment that has all of your needed utensils. The two side dishes are delicious and I will definitely come back. I highly recommend trying their soups with bulgogi.

They didn't have patio service on the day we went. We each got soups. The broth is very good, you can taste that is a long slow cooking process. The yukgaejang is very hearty. I got it made at a milder spice level. The service is prompt and friendly. You cannot take any of the leftover banh chan home.

I think this is a really legit Korean diner! Staff seems great and place is clean and simple like you would find in Korea. For the first time, I tried cold bean noodle soup. It has such a thick and creamy soymilk broth, a very filling treat on a hot day. The super flavorful banchan complement really nicely. Exceptional quality.
