Momento Taquería

Just checked out Momento in Chicago and wow 🌮🔥 This place brings the real taste of Mexico straight from Mexico City to the city. The tacos are packed with flavor, bold, and made with heart ❤️ You can tell they care about every detail. No over-the-top decor or gimmicks, just amazing food and good vibes. The salsa actually has a kick 🌶️ and every bite feels fresh and authentic. It’s definitely not your average taco spot. If you’re into real flavor and great energy, this is the place to go 😋🇲🇽✨

Complimentary chips were lovely. All 3 salsas were great, the avocado especially tasted super fresh. (Was a bit watery though.) The octopus and sweet potato special tacos were both phenomenal. The quesabirria was disappointing, birria and consumme both lacked flavor and depth. The ribeye tacos were cooked fine but lacked any sort of seasoning. Don't be afraid to ask for a refill on the salsa. The molcajete bowls are an interesting gimmick, but I doubt they're actually used for the cooking.

So I figured this place would be good, because it’s a taqueria attached to a restaurant. That usually yields inexpensive tasty food. For the most part, that was the case here, the tacos were pretty tasty and the communal salsa, however off-putting, was good too. The “taqueria”, on the other hand, is a completely charmless doctor’s waiting room. The music was loud and obnoxious, the maitre d was rude and miserable and handed me some wet potato chips between eating her own lunch at the front desk and scrolling her phone. Completely passable, even good, food, but somehow at the same time a completely dissatisfying and miserable meal.

I found this restaurant through TikTok. I did a little bit of research and heard the food was fire. My family and I decided to give it a try. We are really glad that we did. Upon walking in, we were greeted by Frank. He asked a few questions about what we were interested in, then took the time to walk us around the restaurant to show us how everything worked. He really set the tone for how our service would be. We then sat down and ordered a bunch of tacos from Colin. He was very attentive during our dinner but also not overbearing. The support staff also made sure we were tended to. We continued to order more throughout our stay. If you haven’t checked this place out, you’re missing out! The atmosphere is perfect! It’s classy and elegant with a touch of culture. The salsas and guacamole are DELICIOUS! The service is top notch! We went after watching Parade at the theater next door and were so pleased that it was open late and at the quality of every even at that late hour. Definitely going back for more!!
