Malabar Coast

I honestly can't believe this restaurant has been around since 2019 and I just tried it in 2025 after all these years. We're total suckers for Kerala cuisine, and Malabar Coast hit all the right notes for me and my family. It's near the Santa Clara DMV, tucked into the corner of an arcade complex, so it's easy to miss. The inside has decent seating and felt clean. Service was a bit slow and our server didn't seem too familiar with the menu, but it was Veteran's Day so maybe they were short-staffed. One of the owners, Nagendra, jumped in right away to help us with recommendations, which was nice. The menu was packed with dishes I hadn't even heard of before (Chicken Mappas? Chicken Varuthacharathu? Chicken Ulathu?). I hope they trim down the menu a bit or add some descriptions to make orde

I tried the Thalassery mutton biryani, Kerala parotta and mutton fry and absolutely loved them! The biryani and fry were bursting with rich flavor, and the meat in both dishes was tender, well-cooked, and delicious. I also appreciated that each dish had generous portions with whole meaty pieces rather than mostly bony ones. This definitely won’t be my last visit and I’m excited to try more items from their menu next time!

One of my favorite restaurants now. We love the chicken ulathu and chicken Varutharachatu. We also order the Kerala parottas which are not as thick/soft as some other places, but still decent and go well with the chicken dishes.

Malabar Coast truly exceeded our expectations and satisfied our Kerala food cravings perfectly. Every dish was packed with authentic flavors and tasted absolutely amazing. A special shoutout to the restaurant owner, who was incredibly kind and helpful in guiding us through the menu and making sure we ordered exactly what we were craving — especially the fried fish, which was simply outstanding and cooked to perfection. The warm hospitality combined with unforgettable food made our experience truly memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for real Kerala flavors and a welcoming atmosphere!

I love mutton, and their mutton fry is delicious. With rice this dish is amazing. I will be going back to try the anchovies!
