Lulu Modern Chinese

The ambience was date night vibe. The service was spectacular including from the owner who checked on our table throughout the night. The food was deli pie, especially the Peking duck. A must get item! The red snapper was okay, a bit salty, n flavor was kind of bland. The truffle rice was phenomenal. All the cocktails were delicious as we had quite a few of those. Definitely will be back for more of the duck and other items I didn’t get to try.

My family and I made reservation for the new years dinner. The hostess did not have a great attitude when we arrived, personally didn’t feel a welcoming atmosphere. Then he seated us in a booth when I specify that we wanted a table when making the reservation. The hostess told us they didn’t have any tables left for us so it was à take the booth or leave. Since it was new years and we were really hungry we decided to stay in the hopes that the food would be good. Unfortunately it wasn’t even though we were hungry it didn’t wowed us. We ordered the dumplings for starters, wagyu roll and the chicken lettuce wrap. For main dishes we ordered the sweet and sour pork ( mild -which was super spicy) the wagyu roll, braised rice with black truffle and mushrooms ( they don’t have regular fried rice

We were really excited to try this place, especially the Peking duck, but unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations. The duck was quite tasteless, and the skin wasn’t crispy at all — which is honestly the best part of Peking duck. There was also a lot of fat that had melted out, making it feel greasy rather than flavorful. The fish dish and beef was okay — nicely presented and decent texture — but nothing particularly special or memorable in terms of flavor. Drink is good. Overall, the presentation was beautiful, but the taste didn’t match the price point. Hoping they improve the crispiness and seasoning because the dishes definitely look promising.

Great Ambience, But the Food Didn’t Work for Us We visited Lulu Modern Chinese and had mixed feelings overall. The ambience is really nice, the space feels upscale, parking is easy, and the staff was friendly and attentive. From that side, the experience was smooth. Unfortunately, the food didn’t meet our expectations. The Lulu Tiger Prawns had a good flavor on the outside, but the shrimp felt undercooked inside, which made it hard to enjoy. The Black Truffle Stewed Egg had a very unusual taste that didn’t work for me at all. The Crispy Chicken with Latte Sauce looked promising but ended up having very little flavor. We had an incredible NYE Dinner at this new gem of a restaurant in Plano, Lulu Modern Chinese. The food, service, and ambiance were all spot on fantastic. The food isn’t old school Asian nor is it Americanized Asian, it is in a separate category that they appropriately call “Modern.” The restaurant is beautiful and hits perfectly at the point where a suit & tie / dress or jeans & a nice shirt meet. The service is friendly and professional. Everyone working, from one of the owners (who was also busing tables) to the waiters, bartenders, host, and food runners were smiling and happy.
