Los Reyes Mexican Restaurant

Los Reyes – Athens, GA What a wonderful surprise! The atmosphere was fun, colorful, and full of good energy. The staff was friendly, attentive, and truly made me feel welcome. I ordered the freshly made chunky guacamole, prepared exactly how I like it, and it was outstanding. The shrimp and octopus ceviche was tender, flavorful, and beautifully presented, easily one of the best I’ve ever had. To top it all off, my Long Island Iced Tea was mixed to perfection. You can see from the photo how beautifully everything arrived, fresh, vibrant, and made with care. A true gem here in Athens!

Had Sunday lunch and they were busy even at 1:30. Because they were so busy the service was a little slow. The food was good and the price is good. Maybe when they are not busy the service would be better.

So we went to Los Reyes last night because we had a hankering for Mexican food. I already know Los Reyes is my favorite in the area even though it’s not the closest. I was surprised to find them very busy when we arrived, there’s usually several guests but I’ve never seen it so packed. We got a table up front and sat side-by-side. The server showed up pretty quickly and was very friendly. She brought chips and salsa on the first trip and we ordered a small cheese dip. It came out pretty quickly and the cheese was creamy and really good. I wish I had asked for jalapeños in the cheese dip. I forgot. Booooo. You can tell the tortilla chips are made in house because they are not uniform and well…I just think they’re made in house. Server brought our menus and our cheese dip and we looked it o

The food had a nice presentation but it just didn't taste like what I expected. I tried a gordita and a sope. The steak sope was ok. But lacked flavor. The gordita was not at all what I expected. No flavor at all on the ground beef. Very bland. I did like the rice but it isn't the best. The service was the best part. Everyone super friendly and attentive.

The mangonada was great! The food seemed bland but I always bring cholula with me to any Mexican restaurant. Partner agreed that food was a bit bland but I'd definitely go back for drinks and chips and queso. I made the mistake of getting crunchy tacos instead of soft for whatever reason but the restaurant is clean!
