L&L Hawaiian Barbecue

I really wanted to like this place, but it was a bit of a mixed bag. The wait for food was about 20 minutes, which felt long, though they did offer a free drink to make up for it, which was nice. The food itself was OK. I ordered the half & half and chose barbecue beef and katsu chicken. The beef had good flavor but was pretty chewy, and the macaroni salad and rice were bland. On the plus side, the chicken was really good. Portions were generous, but at $16.95 it still felt a little pricey. The service was the highlight, though, and why I really wanted to give it 5 stars. I just ate at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue and I’m still thinking about it. From the moment I walked in, it was an unreal experience. The service was absolutely top tier — everyone was so welcoming, friendly, and genuinely nice. The place looked awesome too, super well decorated with a great vibe. But the FOOD… next level. I got the BBQ chicken plate and I’m not kidding when I say it might be the best BBQ chicken I’ve ever had in my entire life. It was insanely flavorful, perfectly cooked, and every bite was ridiculous. The rice was cooked perfectly and the macaroni salad was so good I could’ve eaten a whole container of it by itself. Love the food. This is my new favorite restaurant. Good food and staff is amazing. I got the garlic shrimp my all time favorite and the garlic chicken which is now my new favorite. I also tried the passion drink and it was good as well. Everything taste great and portions are good size.

How is this worth $21?!!! 1 very small piece of short rib and 6 pieces of shrimp? I've never seen such a big ripoff in my life! Edit: The food was still good and the owner called back. They were busy with a large catering call and I understand there are situations like this. All I wanted was a good response after this experience and the owner was more than great with an immediate response, even though my initial review may have been a little aggressive. I apologize for reacting on the spot. I had a good experience with the owner over the phone. I changed my ratings from 1 star to 4 star and plan to try L & L again.

This was my second visit to L&L. A few weeks ago, I had stumbled upon them by chance. The owner and staff, particularly the young lady at the counter (I can’t recall her name, but she’s incredibly sweet and remembers me every time I come in!), were incredibly friendly and helpful. Since I’ve been to Hawaii before, whenever I see Hawaiian food with positive reviews, I have to try it. And boy, was I in for a delightful surprise! Everything is freshly made and tastes just like you’re on the Big Island. The loco moco is flavorful, the garlic chicken has become one of my favorite dishes, and the katsu chicken is crispy and flavorful. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I can’t wait to return! Mahalo!
