Little Basil

I have only ordered take-out delivery. The orders are accurate and delivery is quick. But -the food is delicious. Absolutely the best Hot and Sour soup. I ordered Wonton Soup tonight and I cannot believe how tender the wontons were. Just delicious!

Ordered this from door dash. The food was cheap- and that’s about the only positive. I got sweet and sour chicken. The chicken really just didn’t taste right. Every other bite had a strange taste to it. It just didn’t seem all that fresh. And honestly when I was eating it I didn’t think much of it at the time. And I probably wouldn’t have wrote a review if I didn’t find a massive hair in the bottom of my rice when transferring containers for leftovers. Needless to say the entire meal went in the trash. I can usually excuse a hair here and there but this one was just too much, as it was stuck in the rice as I was attempting to extract it. Combine that with the gross chicken, I’m just turned off by this place completely.

Little Basil is a charming little gem of a take-out restaurant that serves delicious food, located in the middle of The Village Mall plaza along Kedron. Food has always been fresh, and the lady who takes your orders and serves is always so kind. I'm usually quoted between 10-20 minutes for it to be ready (in off-peak times); but I'm sure the wait would be longer if during lunch or dinner hours. Crispy Orange Chicken is always my go-to dish here, and seems unique to Little Basil—I haven't seen it at other restaurants. A little too heavy on the sauce, perhaps, but it’s still my favorite. Dine-in is non-existent, and you would do best to order ahead—if you can't patiently wait. Chopsticks upon request.

I'm never one to leave a bad review, but this experience was almost laughable. I called Little Basil because I have food allergies and need to stick to vegan dishes. Their website says they offer vegan options, so I called to ask what those were and whether it was accurate. The first time I asked, the call was abruptly disconnected. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I called back assuming it was a mistake. When I repeated my question, I was told "Are you placing an order or not? If not, we'll give your number to the police." I will absolutely never be ordering from this place in the future

In fairness to them I've been here one time only November 5, 2024. However I ordered a very standard meal, Pad Thai with chicken, and it tasted like pasta with very little flavor. It was a generous portion, but totally unimpressive. And I've had pad Thai many times including the Bay Area, California. I will not be going back to try other dishes.
