Customer Reviews
Leon's seems like THE place you go if you're looking for custard in Milwaukee. I was not at all disappointed! The prices were super reasonable - I got a single scoop of chocolate custard, and it was just over two bucks. It was creamy and delicious; just what custard should be. I will definitely be back!
Leon's is an iconic drive-in custard stand and a Milwaukee institution. They still play 1950s music as you browse their menu items. That's cool! We popped in, spur of the moment, and stood in line to place our orders. Leon's does offer some food items, but we were seeking custard treats. Yes, it's creamy, tasty and served up pretty quickly. We had Butter Pecan scoops, and a Hot Fudge Pecan Sundae. If you're in Milwaukee, you owe it to a sense of history to say, "Leon's- yup I was there."
If you’re looking for the heart of Milwaukee’s dairy-land heritage, look no further than Leon’s Frozen Custard. Since opening on May 1, 1942, this family-owned landmark has remained a preserved slice of Americana, standing as a neon-lit beacon on South 27th Street. The Quintessential Vintage Vibe: Walking up to Leon’s feels like stepping onto the set of Happy Days—and for good reason. Legend has it the drive-in served as a primary inspiration for Arnold’s Diner. Its early 1950s remodel is still intact, featuring: * Iconic Neon Signage: Glowing bright against the Milwaukee night. * Classic Drive-In Style: You can still order from your car or stand at the outdoor windows, leaning against the railings just like generations before you. * A "No Frills" Tradition: In an era of endless custom
The finest frozen custard I’ve ever had. Since 1942, this vintage drive in has been serving fabulous, creamy frozen custard, sundaes, floats, burgers, dogs and fries! Don’t miss this step back in time. Service was fast and courteous. I highly highly recommend Leon’s Frozen Custard!
I really waffled between 4 and 5 stars… this is exactly what we were expecting, delicious frozen custard adding in a bit of nostalgia for the “old days”! Walk up service only, nowhere to sit, so expect to pick up and eat in your car or take to a park nearby. The shakes were great - especially the strawberry shake. There were real chunks of strawberries! We also got grilled cheese sandwiches and hot dogs - at under $3 you can’t go wrong! Parking lot was packed, line was long, but moved really quickly. Definitely a place you’ve got to try!
