I finally made it to Lehrhaus in Somerville, MA. It’s a very cute and hipster vibe. You can tell they put a lot of effort and energy into the design and menu. The menu blends traditional Jewish foods with a trendy update. Since it was freezing out, I ordered tea which actually was served in a pot using loose tea instead of a bag, a very nice touch. We got the mile end poutine as an appetizer which we both enjoyed. My husband got the fish and chips and was thrilled they made it the fish real New England style. I got the Mac and cheese kugal which was made with lokshen noodles instead of elbows. It came with a side of collard greens and I was surprised by how much I like that side. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Even after the effort of finding parking with this terrible snow an
Many things to like about this restaurant: --> best fries I've ever had. Not an exaggeration. --> interesting and tasty dishes that are reasonably priced. Mains are in $20s. --> a cozy welcoming vibe with BOOKS --> good service without performative weirdness --> not trying to be trendy --> have solid beer + shot (they call them "sidecars") options -- you can have a beer and a shot with class. I would like to go back someday.
This place is just the ultimate fantasy. A library with classes and book talks that's also a fantastic restaurant and cool bar. I came for Dr. Miriam Udel's book talk about "Modern Jewish World making Theough Yiddish Children's Literature" and had a fig negroni, then stayed for dinner and had the zaatar chickpeas and the beet pastrami reuben. Everything was delicious and the book talk was intriguing and thought-provoking, and the atmosphere of this place is just wonderful. Luxurious and nerdy. I want to come back every day.
Delicious food and drinks, I need to go back so I can try more of the menu! Love the vibe and thoroughly enjoyed attending one of the classes - it was a great conversation and left me with a lot to talk about with my family and friends.
Amazing work on this beautiful little restaurant in a nice little neighborhood. Loved their play on Poutine, with the mushroom gravy! Salty and starchy with the fried cheese curds! The fried Pollock was superb! Beautifully battered and fried. Crisp on the outside and flakes apart on inside. The "tarter" was also outstanding, with their version of many vinegar aswell. Definitely top 10 fish fries I've ever eaten.
