Nothing dusty or tattered about this historical home! It is elegantly decorated but incredibly inviting. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the main rooms which are furnished with appropriate period pieces and enough cozy kitsch to make you feel at home. No details are overlooked. I can't decide which we enjoyed more --the extremely comfortable bed and quality sheets or the extensive breakfast. Guests serve themselves from a kitchen stocked with quiche, croissants, fruit, pastries, juices, tea, coffee. Everything we had was delicious. Le Chateau was a great find on our way home from central Florida. Donna, the owner, will give you a great recounting of the homes history.
Wonderful BnB! We staid upstairs in the Whitney Suite which was very private. Being upstairs, and on the outer area of the house, we had a large swing just outside our door. You can also hear a little road noise. The courthouse clock chimes every hour even at 2am, which was a bummer but easily fixed with ear plugs. Make sure you go to Steinhatchee, about 30 minutes away, for the Sunset and Kathy's Crabs! I would definitely stay again but maybe get a inside room. The breakfast was plentiful and self served. There is a wonderful backyard to sit in and enjoy a relaxed evening. There are a couple of food trucks and 1 restaurant nearby but no other food for 30 minutes away. Our bed, our room was super comfortable.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. I cried when I first got in. It smells like cigars and other smoking products. It was so dirty, food was so bad. I was gagging. Also, that playground next to it is a trash parking lot. Leftover garlic bread sitting on the slides. wrapping all over the swings, and Cheeto puffs on the floor. Ok, who puts a key under there mattress anymore. Thats something out of the 70s. Maybe we got unlucky but. There was so much wrong with this hotel. DON"T STAY HERE.
Awesome! Our two rooms were immaculate, the service impeccable, and the breakfast presentation was superb. (Try homemade apple-nut bread and delicious quiche!) When you enter the door you step into the 1920’s, only with WIFI, flat panel TVs, memory foam beds and A/C. The rooms, lounges and sitting areas are fabulously decorated with 1900-1940 period furnishings. Breakfast in the large ornate dining room was a highlight. If you appreciate history or just want an Old Florida experience, the Chateau de Lafayette is worth going out of your way for. If you will stay in the Mayo/Perry area, I don’t believe you could find a nicer place to stay.
We were greeted with a private tour with the owner. The history of this place is absolutely awesome. The owners have done a great job of restoring and keeping it dated to the period bed was super comfortable it was quiet and clean this is my families new place to stay and the breakfast food was way better than any place I have ever stayed!
