La Gare French Restaurant

Generous entree that includes soup and salad. Salad is fresh , soup is strong flavored/a bit salty and beef wellington is tender served in a larger portion that typical French restaurant. We also tried different appetizers : frog legs, sweetbread and escargot, all richly flavored , delicious, just a bit heavy.

Authentic food. Best ambience. Beautiful vibe. Dog friendly. Super attentive service. This restaurant has it all! La Gare is located on the historic railroad square. There are street parkings all around. We had no problem finding a spot within 2 minutes of walking away from the restaurant. Our first impression was the red bricks exteriors of the building. And the outdoor seating area nestled in an alley between the 2 buildings, looking out to the street. One step inside and you’ll enter a quaint and warm place. The interior decoration reminded me of an older era. We made a reservation online beforehand and highly recommend you doing so. The restaurant was packed for a Saturday night at 6pm. The reception staff quickly greeted us, complimented my puppy and took us to our outdoor table.

We were in town for a show and looked for something special. La Gare met and exceeded our expectations in all categories: food, service and atmosphere. In the pictures there’s the frog legs and the beef Wellington.

I would like to preface this review by saying I love La Gare. I have been going here for 30 years. I went here for restaurant week, And was excited to go back as it's been almost 10 years since I've been here. The beef bourignon was very sad. Every chunk of meat was incredibly dry and difficult to choke down. The mashed potatoes were pretty good, the carrots reminded me of my mother's microwaved frozen carrots. Everything was gummable. I will say this. The Caesar salad was fantastic. Also after this meal I was in the bathroom several times all night. I really hope this is an exception to their standard. However, with the uptick of people coming for restaurant week, they should have made something better or used better selections for it.

I ordered the the Salmon w/rice, veggies & potatoes. The salmon was 'so+so', the potatoes were good but the rice was ,'amazing'! My friend ordered the 'Beef Wellington' and said it was good but very small and very very rare. Our service was hit & miss, some wait staff was amazing. others not so much. All in All we would probably never go back.
