La Fonda Paisa

A friend recommended me, he said the chicharrones were great. My first time in a Colombian restaurant. First of all is not a restaurant, is a store that serves hot food, desserts but mostly they sell products from Colombia like, coffee, beans , cookies, clothes, flags, etc which you can buy from any Latino,Hispanic or international grocery store. Is a small place, with a couple of seats and tables. The waiting time was more than 30 minutes but we were pleasantly patient. When our food arrived we were a little disappointed with the chicharrones and the fry fish, both were dry and tasteless. The beans, rice, tostones, salad and sausages taste good. This is a review for the empanadas only. I recently got empanadas from a couple of places and this place has the best in the area. The dough was not too thick and it was crunchy. The filling was juicy and flavorful. I got the meat colombian empanadas. It wasn't super meaty, so not overly generous on the filling but for the price, they are definitely worth it!

Very disappointed at this place. I can’t believe it represents Colombian culture. It is a store but some how it appears in the website as a restaurant, which offers reheated food, old food, the place is not clean, the service is not nice at all and they charge food as if they were offering food in a restaurant. They serve the meals on disposable plates and add utensils(disposable as well) on their counter for you to serve, without calling people, so your food can wait there a while.

A small “hole in the wall” type for Colombian Taste. These are the current menu taken on July 29, 2024. I know some people want to know prices and it is understandable that prices change from time to time. I believe Quality before price and this spot may seem a little pricey for some (Chorizo con arepa $4.50 and Colombian Tamal is around $11.75), however it is an authentic taste that is hard to find anywhere around the Washington DC area. I came for a quick Colombian Chorizo with Arepa and my mom’s favorite Empanadas that are so tasty and crunchy. Some people don’t like the “Cafetria” style seating where you pick up your own food a take it to your table but it is a small location where the eating area and restaurant share half of the total location known as “La Fonda Paisa”. Total disappointment, nothing to do with a Bandeja paisa !!! Chicharrón super over fry harder than a stone, the meat over cook the old rice The hard-boiled and burnt egg, the arepa cold and hard. The only tasty thing was the avocado and the beans, the 8 ounce guanabana juice in milk did not has a flavor juice just white water??? expensive for the Litle cup and the prices $$ super very expensive!!! It’s a simple place but there is no good service. The only thing the bathroom very clean. 🙃😡🤮
