Kolapasi has good food. The level of spice is unapologetically authentic. The mutton kolombo was very delicious. The Kerala chicken fry was nice but a little low on salt. The mutton chukka could have had a little more meat. The curry leaves chicken was good. Flavors are strong which can be overpowering for some. The eral varuval was well cooked and the prawns were firm but not rubbery. The Malabar parotta was perfectly crispy and flaky. Service was friendly but they are understaffed. Ambience is basic but the high ceiling makes the restraunt feel very spacious which is a plus. Will be back.
We wanted to have authentic South-Indian food but couldn’t find any that we liked in SF. Saw Kolapasi’s menu and decided to try and it did not disappoint. We ordered Gongura Chicken Biryani & Vijayawada Mutton Biryani. Both were delicious and had generous servings. Also ordered Salted Lemon soda & Mango Lassi. Everything was very good. It is right at the intersection and not too busy surroundings so finding parking spots shouldn’t be a problem.
10/10 flavors, definitely recommend !!! ghee dosa 5/5- best dosa I’ve ever had viyajawai chicken biryani 5/5- best biryani we’ve had also! huge portion, flavor bomb, saucey coastal masala shrimp 5/5- came out first and we devoured it so fast paratha 5/5- I prefer this over naan kerala chicken fry 3/5- wasn’t my fave
What a delicious authentic Indian food. We loved the dosas. You can’t miss with any of them. We tried the mutton, chicken curry and prawn. All were wonderful
I’ve been away for a few months and I was so sad to find out that my favorite Indian place had just closed, so my friend suggested we went to this one instead. Oh my, this was absolutely delicious!!! I like both the butter chicken and the pioneer curry. The sauces were very full of flavor and each one amazing in its own way. Now, the highlight of the night for me was the Parotta, which I had for the first time. It was well buttered, flaky in its softness, warm and delicious, with perfect texture. In my (yes, Western) mind, Parotta is the Indian croissant. This will be the first time of many ordering it. Kolapasi is located in the corner that was once Medianoche, a colorful Cuban joint. I loved that they have integrated some of Medianoche’s, tropical lush murals, colors, and motifs. Servic
