Kirby's Cafe

I enjoy exploring the variety of eateries across Iowa and in Emmetsburg that find is Kirby's Cafe. I was enticed by rumors of a waffle of all waffles. Came in on Sunday and they had a buffet going. Carnivore heaven! Bacon, sausage and ham with scrambled eggs. Big plate. Oh, the waffle, yeah, had to not do 100% carnivore. Waffle was crispy yet soft in the middle. A bit too soft yet still delicious. Real butter ! ! Winner! Nice spot if you are in the area and the service is spectacular.

Delicious food! Friendly staff! Fast service! We arrived on a Sunday late morning, roughly 10:45am, a busy time for a cafe. We were greeted with a smile and assisted with a high chair for our baby right away. We got our food within 5 minutes of ordering and it was HOT and FRESH! My hot chicken fried was delicious and the pancakes were amazing. If we’re ever in the area again, we WILL be stopping by!

Walked in, just two of us. Two women behind the counter looked right at us. Didn't acknowledge us. We sat down. The one lady looked at us 3 times while leaning on the counter. She didn't acknowledge us. A lady came in for a pickup order and the other lady helped her. Two ladies came in and we're immediately brought menus. I now know exactly what it feels like to be invisible. We got up and left and will never return.

Service was nice and prices were fair, but the food felt mass-produced. You can tell most of it comes prepackaged and frozen — nothing really tasted fresh or homemade. Not a bad stop if you’re just hungry, but not the kind of place you’d recommend to friends.

If you pull up to this little cafe at noon, you're going to find a packed parking lot. DO NOT, DO NOT let this deter you from stopping for a great lunch. This quaint cafe is bigger than you will think on the inside. Even with a full parking lot, we walked in and were seated immediately, NO waiting at all. We were met by our waitress, who quickly took care of us. She let us know the spicy fried cheese was back, and was one of the best appetizers they had, hence we had to try them. Having also read that Kirby's may "have the best burger within 100 miles," I was up to see what all of the rage was about. The spicy cheese curds were definitely home made, varying in sizes, perfectly seasoned, and when combined with Ranch, were delicious. Highly recommend them! As for the burgers...cooked nearly
